Press Release

The Independent Conservative Union of Seychelles is a political party that has been formed for many reasons but fundamentally because:
a. We believe in a serious and strong opposition in the Seychelles political landscape and we want to give the Seychellois populace a real and serious alternative to the current ruling party. From our consultations with ordinary people in the community, we found that there was a real hunger for a new slate in Seychelles politics because people are tired of the same predicament year in year out, so we present to the people this new slate with no connections to any existing or past political parties. We center our policies around people’s best interests. People wants solutions to their ailing problems that Parti Lepep cannot or is not willing to address. The Seychellois populace is begging the current government to ease the burden of their daily lives. The prices of basic commodities in shops are not affordable and their wages do not match their purchasing power. Most live below the poverty line. ICUS promises to the Seychellois that when it comes to power, that it will be its first priority to redress the issue of the standard of living of all Seychellois. Yes we have a workable plan to stop poverty in our beloved islands. ICUS is our modern, energetic, compassionate and real people’s party that will bring about the necessary changes that will see our country move out of that bogged and bitter situation and compete in the modern global village as a modern and sophisticated nation.

b. We believe that democracy is the most vital single factor that all other political parties must not just preach but practice as a reflection of what people expect of them if they were to be elected as the State’s custodians and ICUS practices democracy outright. ICUS believes in empowering women in the highest decision making process and ICUS encourages women in leadership. We congratulate our leader Miss Jona Alcindor for coming forward and elected as leader of ICUS. We salute your courage and determination in rising to the helm of our organization, making many women proud of your success. We do hope that you get the mandate to be our first women president in Seychelles. We also salute the other women in our Executive and sub committees. Well-done ladies, you make other women proud.

c. ICUS believes that Seychelles politicians need to be more forward-thinking. Our politicians must stop the theatrical personal war among themselves and start thinking of how to bring about a real positive future for this country. All we hear is “we want a change” but we never hear of what the change will bring for the people of Seychelles. ICUS has a very comprehensive plan for Seychelles and a brighter future for the Seychellois people. No other political party has ever put forward a plan of what they want for Seychelles. Ask Parti Lepep where Seychelles will be in 25, 50 or 100 years and you will be met with a big blank. The same question can be asked to any other political party in Seychelles today and none have a plan. We have a plan, we have a comprehensive plan for Seychelles. The Seychellois electorate will decide in the next election if they want visionary politicians for a better future for their country or just a bunch of political bullies fighting each other to fill up their own pockets. Yes dear Seychellois people, ICUS will soon be circulating our National Development Plan for Seychelles for the next 100 years. We have a vision for Seychelles and we want you to take the front seats in the development of your own country and destiny. For our Seychellois youth, we recommend you to have a good look at our plan and situate yourself in that big, bright future ICUS will bring about for you. Prepare yourself to play your role in a big way in the development of your country under an ICUS government. We have the vision and you have the time and energy to fulfill the mission of not only ICUS but more importantly our beloved Seychelles and our future generations.

What we stand for?

We believe in the fundamental concept of democracy and freedom, thus we dwell on such institutions as the corner stone to a prosperous future for the Seychellois people. It is undeniable that such institutions are absent in the current Seychelles political and societal landscape thus an urgent need to address and redress the situation was paramount to the formation and existence of the Independent Conservative Union of Seychelles. We the founders see ICUS as the lifeblood to an otherwise decaying and decadent society on the verge of total self-annihilation.
We are a serious party with no ties to the past seeking a serious mandate to take Seychelles forward to a prosperous society where our cultural, traditional and moral values are restored. We are confident that our ICUS team is not only very well equipped but also passionate about our cause and our desire to see real changes in our beloved country.

ICUS will not partake in personal attacks on anyone including our opponents and other opposition political parties, as we see this type of politics as “poor character” and a waste of valuable time and energy in tackling the real issues that plagues our nation and affects the lives of our people.
ICUS is open to work hand in hand with any other political party that is serious about its people’s welfare at the center of any political divide.

ICUS wants to adopt a Bi-Carmeral Parliamentary system for Seychelles. We know from research that the majority of countries with small populations and those with small land mass usually adopts Uni-carmeral systems for a few reasons including homogeneous populations (meaning people of the same race for example) and also due to economic and other reasons. Seychelles has a very different set of values except the fact that it is a small land mass. Taking into consideration all the factors associated with the choice of system, Can we have a serious intelligent debate without insults on this matter?

New political party formed

31-March-2015
A new political party has been formed in Seychelles. It is called the Independent Conservative Union of Seychelles (ICUS) and its motto is ‘Celebrating the birth of a new vision of hope for Seychelles’.

The party, who has just been accredited by the Electoral Commision, met members of the press yesterday at the International Conference Centre (ICCS) to give a brief overview of its plan.

The party said it will present its constitution and national action plan to the people of Seychelles soon.

The members are Jona Alcindor as party leader, Ralph Ernesta as deputy leader, Mike Chadstone as secretary general, Linda Jackson as treasurer, Almina Radegonde as elected member who also stands for women committee and Julie Howardson as ordinary member also representing youths.

Its headquarters is based at Pointe Conan near Virmal Shopping Centre.

When asked why the formation of a new political party, Mr Chadstone said many people wanted a new political party in Seychelles.

“We believe in serious and strong opposition in the Seychelles political landscape and we want to give the Seychellois populace a real and serious alternative to the current ruling party,” said the party’s secretary general.

He stressed that his party puts great emphasis on democracy which it believes is very important and hence the formation of ICUS.

Mr Chadstone also said his party is ready to take part in the next presidential and parliamentary elections and that ICUS is open to work hand in hand with other political parties that are serious about the welfare of the people.
